Weather Station Instruments

The weather station is a Lacrosse WS2300 unit. Full specifications are available here:

It can be setup as a wired connection from the sensors (temp,rain,wind) to the main control unit. In this mode the sensors use power supplied by the reciever station and data updates occur every few seconds. It can also be operated in wireless were power comes from batteries and the data updates are every two minutes (to save power?). There is a hack were you can modify the receiver so that it thinks it is wired to the sensors and does updates every few seconds.

The rain guage is a self emptying tipping bucket device and is a neat device that works as shown below:

The tempreture sensor is a standard thermocouple device and the humidity comes from an electronic hygrometer.

The wind sensor measures both wind speed and wind direction.
